WAVES

CODY SIZEMORE

What is a wave

A wave is a disturbance that travels through a medium from one location to another location.

Two types of waves

The two types of waves are longitudinal and transverse.

Examples

Sound waves, waves in a slink, and tsunami waves are examples of Longitudinal waves. Seismic waves, an oscillating string, and an audience wave are examples of a Transverse wave.

A reflection is casting back a light, mirroring, or giving back an image. A rarefaction is the reduction of an item's density. A diffraction is when a wave encounters an obstacle or a slit.

Velocity of a wave.

To calculate a wave's velocity you need its frequency and its wavelength.

Destructive interference is when two waves cancel each other out. Constructive interference is when two waves join together and produce a combined sound.

One interesting thing

Some waves that do not move horizontally but remain stationary are called Seiches.
