- Jews holy book is called the Tanakh
According to Jewish beliefs, the Jews are descended from Abraham, who made a covenant with God.
Israelites believed that they would be blessed if they followed God's laws that they were not to worship other Gods and that they were to treat others fairly.
Jews believe that the prophet Moses revealed the most important of Gods laws, the Ten Commandments.
Around 1000 B.C., the Israelites created a kingdom in present-day Israel. It's capital was Jerusalem.
By 992 B.C., the Israelite kingdom had split into two states; Israel and Judah. The people of Judah were called Jews.
In later centuries, the Jews were conquered and forced to leave their homes. They eventually moved all over the world.
This movement of the Jews was called Diaspora
