WHY IS IT BUILT? WHAT IS IT?

  • There was a flood in Colorado River
  • Congress got an idea to build a dam
  • It is a large arch gravity dam
  • Provides power and water
  • Can irrigate about 1 million acers off land

  • Crest Width - 45 feet(13.7)
  • Base Width - 660 feet(201.2m)
  • Enough concrete to pave a two-lane road from NYC San Fransisco

CONSTRUCTION BEGAN IN 1931 COMPLETED IN 1915
