"Simple. my new favorite word. I never knew life for a kid could be so simple. Seventh grade had just started a month ago, and that's probably the one word that could best describe how my school year had gone so far" (C Rylander 1).
- At this point Mac is oblivious to what is going to happen. This could be considered foreshadowing because things are almost going too well for Mac.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MAC IS JUST A MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

"Simple. my new favorite word.

CRAWL INTO THE CAVE

CONFORMED

"Make it fifteen percent and you got yourself a deal." (C Rylander 50).
- Although you cannot tell, this is the point where Mac officially gives in to the temptation of going back into business. This event is symbolic because it is a major turning point in the story. It is dramatic irony because nobody expected it to happen.

THE REGRET

" I nodded in defeat" (C Rylander 243).
-This simplistic quote is Mac throwing the white flag. He was immature in the beggining but grew and matured to the point where he recognizes defeat. In this way he has grown as a character

THE LEARNING EXPIERIENCE

"But suddenly, for just a moment, everything stemmed just as it should be."
- In the end Mac has a realization and learns to see the peace in even the worst of things. When the conflict of the story is resolved, it doesn't turn out well for Mac, but he can see the beauty in things. I think that is the theme.
