CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS

MADE UP OF 2+ ELEMENTS!

WATER IS A COMPOUND TOO!

WHAT DOES WATER DO FOR YOU

  • Keeps you functioning
  • Cools you off
  • Keeps skin healthy
  • Helps with your kidneys

LIPIDS CONTAIN

  • Hydrogen
  • Nitrogen
  • Oxygen
  • Carbon

CARBOHYDRATES

  • Monosaccharides - the simplest form of carbohydrates.
  • Disaccharides - known as sugars such as sucrose and lactose.
  • Oligosaccharides - formed from a small number (usually 3 to 6) of monosa.
  • Polysaccharides - long carbohydrate molecules. (complex carbohydrates)
  • carbon, hydrogen and oxygen make up carbohydrates

PROTEINS

  • meat, fish, cheese, tofu, beans,
  • lentils, yogurt, nuts, and seeds.
  • A deficiency in protein leads to muscle atrophy
  • impaired functioning of the human body in general

DNA/RNA

  • Each RNA nucleotide consists of a nitrogenous base,
  • a ribose sugar and a phosphate
  • Every human being shares 99% of their DNA with every other human.
  • A parent and child share 99.5% of the same DNA.
