GOBI

• The Gobi from Mongolian gobi, meaning “waterless place”

• It was built to transport grain from Yangtze to Huai river valleys

• largest of the four main islands of Japan
• between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan
• varies greatly in width
• area of 87,992 square miles

MEKONG RIVER

• longest river in Southeast Asia
• the 12th longest river in the world
• length of about 2,700 miles
• the 7th longest river in Asia
