WEATHER PATTERNS

  • Recent rainfall has caused dramatic flooding in Australia
  • These storms caused by climate change could spell disaster for
  • Populated costal communities, they have also flooded homes and caused rivers to rise
  • There has been a lot of lightening
  • These storms could cause damage to homes

CLIMATE IN AUSTRALIA

  • Average temperature is 67 degrees F
  • Australia has four seasons
  • Annual precipitation is 21.5 inches

BIOME

  • Temperate in the south and east
  • Tropical in north
  • Tropical rain forests and tropical deserts

BIOMES TROPICAL RAINFOREST

  • Interesting fact about the tropical rainforest is that
  • It contains the greatest number of animals and plant species of any other biome
  • The soil is thin and nutrient
  • Animals in the tropical rainforest are parrots, tree frogs, and tigers
  • Plants are bamboo, vines

DESERT

  • Plants are cactus
  • The soil is poor in organic matter
  • The animals have to adapt in order to survive in the desert
  • Animals in the tropical deserts are Kangaroos, rats, snakes, lizards

CLIMATE CHANGE TRENDS

  • Australia's temperature went up by .8 degrees C over the last century
  • Average temperatures are predicted to rise by 1-5 degrees C by 2070
  • It effected what we wore and what we did
  • It has recently been colder in Australia

AFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE

  • It causes damage to homes
  • It damaged trees and plants
  • It killed animals

POLLUTANTS

  • Compared to other countries, Australia has a small pollutant problem
  • Release a lot of green house gases
  • Recently we have had a water shortage
  • The water is becoming more polluted leading to the destruction of mangroves and wetlands
  • Peoples and factories are the major source of pollution
