PRESENTATION OUTLINE

NEWTON'S LAWS

WITH TIM AND BOB

Bob and I will be explaining Newton's 3 Laws of Motion. Let's get going!

NEWTON'S FIRST LAW

ALSO CALLED: THE LAW OF INERTIA

Newton's First Law, or the Law of Inertia, states that a moving object will keep moving, or a still object will stay still, until they are acted upon by an unbalanced force.

So if we fire Bob out of this cannon...

He'll keep going until a force, like gravity or a wall up ahead, stops him.

Here's another example. If Bob is at rest, he'll stay at rest until something moves him...

...like this cannonball. Bob's having quite the day. Poor Bob.

NEWTON'S SECOND LAW

ALSO CALLED: THE LAW OF ACCELERATION

The Second Law, or the Law of Acceleration, states that the force used to move an object is equal to its mass times its acceleration, which is represented by the equation F=M*A

So if we fire Bob from the top cannon, and his identical twin Bill from the bottom cannon, Bill with 1000 newtons of force, and Bob with 2000 newtons of force...

Bob will accelerate much faster than Bill.

Or...

Meet Blob.
We're going to fire him and Bob from a cannon with the same force...

Ready guys?
This may hurt a bit.
Heh heh heh...

Since Bob is lighter than Blob, he'll have a greater aceleration

NEWTON'S THIRD LAW

ALSO CALLED: NO OTHER NAMES. THE THIRD LAW IS SO SAD AND LONELY.

The Third Law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

So if Bob throws this tennis ball at the wall..

...the force the ball applies to the wall will be applied back to the ball...

...And the ball comes back to Bob! Ouch!

One more example, then I need to go call an ambulance for Bob. Burns on his back. Painful. Anyway, moving on!

If Bob pushes on this spring...

Wait for it...

The spring will apply the same force back to Bob.

So thanks for watching! We hope you learned a lot about Newton's Three Laws of Motion!

Bob's in the hospital for burns, broken bones, concussions, vital organ trauma, and a dislocated shoulder, but I don't think he minds...

He he likes the nurse. He won't be too sad or lonely.
(unlike the Third Law)
See you guys later!
