OFFSPRING MODEL

QUESTION

HOW ARE TRAITS PASSED FROM PARENT TO OFFSPRING?

Background:
Dominant: allele is one that is expressed in the phenotype even if only one copy is present in the genotype
Recessive: a recessive allele is one that is expressed in the phenotype only when two copies of it are present homologs.
Phenotype: what is visible
Genotype: what is located on the allele

Hypothesis
If we choose alleles from six bags then what we will look like from the six bags we chose from because of the offspring will look like because of the genotype is located on the allele.
Independent variable: we choose alleles from six bags.
Dependent variable: what we will look like from the six bags we chose from.

MATERIALS

  • Pretzels sticks
  • Mashmallows
  • Airhead strip
  • Frosting
  • Candy Dots

PROCEDURES

  • Make data tables like those shown on the sample notebook page
  • You should have two sets of six bags each.
  • Choose one set you really represent the female parent and one set to represent the male parent.
  • Each bag contains letters written on slips of paper.
  • These letters represent the parent's alleles for one trait.

Observation:

Analysis
During the experiment we drew different alleles for different parts of the body. Then we assembled the bug.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we determined that our hypothesis was correct because we determined what the offspring was going to look like.

SLE
The SLE is life long learner, because we learned about alleles and genes and how the off spring would turn out after we chose the alleles.
