THE UPPER CLASS

  • This picture shows what the upper class is how it looks like
  • Controls a sizable proportion of the country's wealth
  • "Old money" term meaning these families have been wealthy for generations
  • Can afford certain privileges and lixuriea unavailable to most americans
  • "New money" Refers ti newly rich by their own efforts

THE UPPER MIDDLE CLASS

  • Members of the upper class are primarily high income business people
  • Most have college educationa and advanced degrees
  • Class membership id generally based on income eather than on assets
  • Many people in tnis class are politically and socially active.
  • This picture tells us that almost half the population is middleclass

THE LOWER MIDDLE CLASS

  • Hold white collar jobs-works that dose not involve manual labor.
  • Many of their jo s require less education and provide lower income
  • Members of this class live a comfortable life but must work hard to keep what they have achieved
  • Hold traditional vaules and are politically conservative
  • This picture shows this hard working man working at a store to bring money home

THE WORKING CLASS

  • Hold jobs that requiew manual labor
  • Blue collar jobs
  • Pink collar jobs
  • Pictures shows him working hard ro make ends meet
  • Consequently unexpected crises can push working class into lower class

THE WORKING POOR

  • Work at the lowest paying jobs
  • Jobs are often temporary or seasonal
  • Many depend on government support programs
  • Most are high school dropouts and have lack of education
  • Pictures shows us that this class depends a lot on hovernment programs

THE UNDERCLASS

  • Families that have experiences unemployment and poverty
  • Low paying jobs
  • Day to day struggle for surviL
  • 50% of children in the underclass make it into higher class
  • This picture show a family in poverty

TASK 2

MEDICAID

  • Low cost income for health care
  • Provides health care for those who cant afford it.
  • I think its a good program but they shouldnt let anyone just have it.
  • Apply for it
  • Yes i like this program helping those in need

FOODSTAMPS

  • a voucher issued by the government to those on low income
  • Exchange for food.
  • Many underclass member use these
  • Based on net and griss income you fill out a application
  • I agree with this familes in need do need extra help

TRANSFER PAYMENTS

  • Help the old,needy and, poor
  • Use taxes to create programs
  • You apply and see if you income is low enough
  • I think this is a bitter sweet situation

TASK 3

POVERTY IN THE UNITED STATES

  • Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter.
  • most common measure of poverty in the U.S. is the "poverty threshold" set by the U.S. government.
  • Poverty in the usa looks like homeless, needy people asking for money and jobs
  • Most Americans will spend at least one year below the poverty line at some point
  • people ages 18-64 were in poverty(common)
