Unconference

Clearly this isn't a traditional camp, but it doesn't feel like a regular conference either.

Knowledge

worth sharing
The most important part of Edcamp is that we all have knowledge worth sharing, regardless of our level of knowledge or experience.

The world needs your genius!

Like Angela Maiers says, "The world needs your genius!" You matter! http://bit.ly/1BC0MZK

What you know

Choice

is in your hands
At Edcamp, you get to choose the content of the sessions. Write your session idea on a paper and it becomes part of our day.

Discussion

Not presentation
Edcamp sessions are not presentations, powerpoints, or sit-and-get lectures. They are round-table discussion style and/or experience-based.

Sessions might look like see & do sessions where participants explore a particular resource, website, app, etc.

Again, facilitators' only job is to get the discussion ball rolling, and then just sit back and participate in the learning that will transpire.

Don't panic.

If no one in your session happens to be an expert in a subject, don't panic! Remember the "I don't know, but let's find out" philosophy. Since you are all curious about that subject, use this time as an opportunity to clarify what you actually want to know about it, and then do some research!

I don't know,
but let's find out.

Look online for resources, and put a note on todaysmeet.com/edcampphx so we can pool our collective wisdom, and/or contact others who may know about it. Then, end by reporting your findings back to your group so you can all come away with more knowledge. Remember, “I don’t know, but let’s find out!”

Everyone has something to share. Be brave and remember that your knowledge matters! Sharing is caring!

If you are in a session that does not meet your needs, whether it’s mismatched levels, a topic that turns out to be different than you expected, etc., a prevailing Edcamp principle takes effect. Vote with your feet. If it doesn’t benefit you as an educator, get yourself to a session that will benefit you. For this reason, if you leave today without learning anything useful, know that you at least had the opportunity to find a session that was a better fit. And for the rest of you in the session, part of the understanding is that we will not take offense if someone walks out of a session we are in. They are taking responsibility for their own learning, just like we encourage our students to do. Please bear in mind that this isn’t an excuse to just walk in and out of sessions, carte blanche, because things seem boring. Before you decide to leave, make sure you’ve taken some responsibility for your own learning. Be a participant in the session by helping to lead the conversation in a meaningful direction. If that still doesn’t address what you want to learn, you are welcome to try another session.

Network

to become a better educator.
You have a whole hour for lunch! Take this opportunity to get to know someone near you. Recap some of the things you've learned today. Find out if you have similar passions in education. Meet your colleagues! You'll be a better educator for it.

Google docs

Anyone can do it!
Every session needs to have at least one person committed to taking notes in the session on the Google Docs. Anyone and everyone in a session can contribute though, this way all sharing is cataloged and available for others who might not remember what was shared or weren't able to be in that session.

Tweet about the days events with the hashtag #edcampphx (and get on Twitter if you haven't done it yet!) Also, we'd love for everyone to share something on todaysmeet.com/edcampphx. Questions and concerns are welcome here as well.
