*Facts*

  • First created by Andrew Meikle, a Scottish Engineer. 
  • It's created to separate the grains fromstalks and husks 
  • Jefferson and Washington are thrilled about this invention! 
  • Takes less labor, even though you need a big team for it to work
  • greatly improves the efficiency of threshing

*uses*

  • Separates wheat, peas, grains, soybeans, and seed from crops
  • Removes all straw and chaff from the grains
  • All the grain gets bagged up
  • All the straw is removed from the grain.

*how to use*

  • First, the bundle of grain and straw are pitched into hoppers 
  • The grain and straw are then hit with a flail or animal hooves
  • Then the heads are chopped off the grain and straw
  • Its then moved to a straw rack that removes the straw from the kernels.  
  • Lastly, it goes into a steaming system were the straw and chaff are removed

  • Easier for farmers to separate grain and plants
