PRESENTATION OUTLINE

TEEN REBELLION

MADE BY: TANYA BUI

WHAT IS TEEN REBELLION?

  • As kids grow up, they must start to develop an independent mind.
  • They may experiment with different looks, behaviors, etc. to find an identity.
  • Teen rebellion is linked to developmental changes in the brain.
  • These changes later help them in the future to be logical adults.

STATISTICS

  • 78% of U.S teens have drinken alcohol.
  • 47 % of that group have consumed 12 or more drinks in the past year.
  • 42.5% of American teens have tried drugs.
  • 81% have had the oppurtunity to use drugs.

ACTS OF TEENAGE REBELLION

  • Using drugs / smoking, going clubbing, drinking, etc.
  • Lying frequently, arguing with parents, cursing, etc.
  • These are just the most common acts that teenagers do.

WHY TEEN REBELLION IS A GOOD THING

  • They become more independent & mature.
  • They are exposed to new ideas & concepts & they become open-minded.
  • Parents learn to accept that he/she isn't a child anymore.

WHY DO TEENS REBEL?

  • They are trying to find their identity & who they are.
  • They want to fit it with the other kids, who are "cool".
  • They want control & don't want their parents making all decisions.

EFFECTS OF TEEN REBELLION

  • It can harm their school life.
  • They might cut classes & not do class work.
  • They might not be eligible for college & won't have a steady career.
  • They also may become addicted to drugs for life.
  • Drinkers could grow up & have health problems like, alcohol poisoning.

HOW DO PARENTS DEAL WITH IT?

  • They model the behaviors they want their teens to display.
  • Parents set behavioral expectations & rules.
  • Most punish their teens to establish authority.

RELATING TO "THE PIGMAN"

  • In the story, John smokes & drinks as an escape from reality.
  • He has parents who he thinks of as judgemental & he pokes fun at them.
  • He also lies frequently, no matter who it is ; he even lied to the police.

MY THOUGHTS

  • Obviously, teen rebellion plays a big part in maturing.
  • Although it has negatives, it is something everyone must go through.
  • I think it's interesting that almost all teenagers go through this phase.

CONCLUSION/SUMMARY

  • Most teenagers go through a rebellious phase.
  • It helps their brains develop & mature.
  • The main reason why they rebel is for independence.
  • Another reason is to fit in with other kids their age.
