The band was formed by Cobain and Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington. 1987.

After Kurt Cobains death, the band branched out and became members in other bands. There was a "one night only reunion" on April 16th this year with guest lead singers that were only women. One being Joan Jett.

Cobain and Novoselic met while attending Aberdeen High. During its initial months, the band went through a series of names, starting with Skid Row and including Pen Cap Chew. "I wanted a name that was kind of beautiful or nice and pretty instead of a mean, raunchy punk name like the Angry Samoans"Said Cobain. Nirvana's brief run ended following the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, but various posthumous releases have been issued since, overseen by Novoselic, Grohl, and Cobain's widow Courtney Love.
