PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Gravity has developmental themes throughout the movie
The most noticeable image is Ryan Stone curled in a ball resembling a baby in the mothers womb
In the Chinese capsule, Ryan Stone hears voices on the radio but doesn't know what they're saying. As babies before birth, we are able to hear voices without knowing what is being said
When Ryan Stone hears the dog barking she imitates it, much like an infant imitates the sounds of animals and sounds
Ryan Stone hums with pitches a fifth apart. This is significant because babies are drawn to the simple notes
When Ryan Stone reaches land she is unable to walk after being in a capsule, much like a new born not being able to walk
After the capsule landed and started to sink, Ryan hand to swim holding her breath. This resembles a baby being submerged in the liquid in the womb and then being born gasping for its first breath
The last scene we see Ryan standing showing the developmental progression of an entire human species
