SOLAR SYSTEM

POLAR REGIONS

The polar regions of Earth, also known as Earth's frigid zones, are the regions of Earth surrounding its geographical poles.

SOLSTICE

.

A solstice is an astronomical event that occurs twice each year as the Sun reaches its highest or lowest excursion relative to the celestial equator on the celestial sphere. The solstices, together with the equinoxes, are connected with the seasons.

EQUINOX

.

An equinox occurs twice a year, around 20 March and 22 September. The word itself has several related definitions. The oldest meaning is the day when daytime and night are of approximately equal duration.

ATMOSPHERE

An atmosphere is a layer of gases surrounding a planet or other material body of sufficient mass that is held in place by the gravity of the body.

LITHOSPHERE

A lithosphere is the rigid, outermost shell of a rocky planet, and can be identified on the basis of its mechanical properties.

HYDROSPHERE

The hydrosphere in physical geography describes the combined mass of water found on, under, and over the surface of a planet.
