Kiowa Tribe

General Information

  • The Kiowa used long lances, bows and arrows, tomahawks, knives, and war-clubs, though also used rifles, shotguns, revolvers, and cavalry swords.
  • And Dańasan, one of the greatest of Kiowas Chiefs, had a crow ancestor (a crow was one of the tribes).

Housing

  • The Kiowa lived in tepees, that were made of buffalo-hide.
  • The tepees were about 12 ft. tall.

Food

  • Whenever the Kiowa went traveling, they found many nuts, plants, roots, and berries.
  • They also found buffalo to kill and cook to eat, because it was the main commissary of their culture.

Clothing

  • Men, women, and children wore skin garments, moccasins, leggings, and fur robes for coats when winter starts.
  • But usually during summer, the women wore long deerskin dresses painted with yellow and green tribal designs. Men wore breech clothes and leather leggings, and usually shirtless.

Daily Life

  • The women, cleaned, sewed clothes, cooked, took care of infants, and more. (they did most of the work).
  • The men hunted, they were warriors, so they protected the tribe and fort, and did most of the hard work.
