SOCIAL SECURITY ACT

The Social Security Act was intended to help older and disabled Americans.

I believe that the SSA did the most to expand opportunity for the elder and disabled Americans.

ECONOMIC PROBLEMS FACED

• Retirement and income
• Psychological health and well being
• Poverty
• Unemployment

This act originated a system that gave old-age pensions for workers, survivors benefits for victims of accidents, unemployment insurance, the blind & physically disabled.

Although the original SSA didn't cover farm and domestic workers, it did help millions of Americans feel more secure & also maintain freedom in the economic lives of the American people.

This social security act gives at least some protection to 30 millions of American citizens who need help with direct benefits through unemployment , through old-age pensions and through services for the protection of children and the prevention of ill health.
