ENVIRONMENTAL RELATIONS

SOIL, WATER, POLLUTION, PLANTS, & ANIMALS

SOIL

  • Composed of inorganic particles, air, water, and living organisms.
  • Hills, valleys, and mountains affect exposure to the sun, wind, and water
  • Soil forms faster in warm, wet climates.
  • Plants add organic matter and affect a soil's composition and structure
  • Healthy soil is essential for agriculture and forestry.

SOIL-WATER

GROUND WATER PRECOLATES THROUGH THE SOIL.

WATER

  • Energy from the sun causes water to move into the atmosphere

WATER-POLLUTION

RUNOFF EVENTUALLY CARRIES NON-SOURCE POLLUTION TO BODIES OF WATER

POLLUTION

  • Categories: nutrient, toxic, chemical, sediment, thermal, and biological
  • Point-source pollution comes from distinct locations
  • Nonpoint-source pollution comes from many places over a large area
  • Natural process: wind storms, volcanic erruptions, and fires.
  • Human activity: Farming causese erosion which leads to storms.

POLLUTION-PLANTS

  • Plants require carbon dioxide and water
  • Pollution restricts oxygen to plants.

PLANTS&ALGAE

  • multi cellular organisms that require sunlight.
  • Produce carbohydrates for energy
  • Require carbon dioxide and water

PLANTS- ANIMALS

ANIMALS REQUIRE A FOOD SOURCE (PLANTS)

ANIMALS

  • ectothermic: able to generate own heat
  • poikilothermic: body is controlled by environment.
  • Unlike plants, animals are mobile to assist in obtaining food.
