INDIO HISTORICAL MUSEUM

BY DEREK, HENDRIK, NICK, LUIS, AND DARCHELLE

Introduction
We went to the Indio Historical Museum and learned many interesting things about life in the desert a hundred years ago.

SCHOOLHOUSE

  • The school house had a bell that can be heard for miles away
  • You have to bring your own lunch because there is no food at school
  • Girls can only wear skirts or dresses
  • Kids from kinder through 8th go to school in the same class
  • They use socks as erasers

BLACKSMITH

  • Burned symbols on a horse to notice the difference
  • The shop has a lot of tools
  • The blacksmith made horseshoes
  • When he sharpened a tool he used water to cool it down

DR.SMILEY'S HOUSE

  • His house was made from adobe
  • Went to basement for summer or winter
  • Had a dumbwaiter to bring the food to the basement
  • Used his house for a office

SUBMARINE

  • The wind goes through a wet towel for cool air
  • Workers sleep in the submarine to rest from work
  • Has two beds
  • The workers take turns sleeping

OUTHOUSE

  • When full dads have to move it
  • There are two outhouse for boys and girls
  • One person at a time
  • The outhouse was made out of wood

Conclusion
Those are some of the interesting facts I learned about the people who lived a hundred years ago from the Indio Historical Museum.
