EXAMPLES OF EQUILIBRIUM

HEMOGLOBEN AND OXYGEN

• Oxygen attaches to hemoglobin to go to the lungs
• The lungs would not get enough oxygen if it was not in equilibrium
• A shift in equilibrium could cause death

OZONE LAYER

• Carbon could cause a hole in the ozone layer
• Then it would no longer be in equilibrium
• This would cause harmful rays from the sun to hit earth

ECOSYSTEMS

• Ecosystems are regulated by animals keeping their populations down
• If one group is hunted more than others, then one group might gain an advantage or disadvantage

BODY TEMPERATURE

• When people are sick their body temperature goes up
• This throws off equilibrium and our body has to work to get back to homeostasis
