Melted Chocolate

  • Physical Change
  • Reversible Change
Melted chocolate is a physical change because once you put it in the fridge it can simply go back to being a solid. The melted chocolate will not be in the same form before it was melted by adding heat. The chocolate went from a solid to a liquid state.
The chocolate could have been unwrapped from its packaging, put in our oven for a few minutes and then placed in the mess scene right before 11:30 when we walked in.

Burning Candle

  • Physical Change
  • Reversible Change
The Burning candle is a physical change because once the the melted wax has been cooled it has gone back to its original state. The burning candle is a reversible change and this is easily a reversible change because you can easily cool it so the wax is dry again. Obviously before my classmates and I walked into the classroom the candle was lit and placed in the mess scene.

Berocca and Water

  • Chemical Change
  • Irreversible change
The Berocca and Water is a Chemical Change because once the tablet had been dissolved in the water it is impossible to put all the particles from the tablet back into a solid tablet. The Beroccca tablet could have been dropped in some water in a cup and placed in the mess scene.

Melted Ice block

  • Physical Change
  • Reversible change
The melted ice block is a physical change because it can easily be re frozen as it is still in its packaging. This can happen by putting the liquid state back into the freezer so that it can be re frozen into a solid state. The ice block could have been left out in the room temperature air instead of a freezer to melt as it still had condensation around the wrapper. Once the ice block had semi-melted it was placed in the mess scene.

Burnt Chocolate

  • Chemical Change
  • Irreversible Change
The Burnt Chocolate is a chemical change in our mess scene because once you burn an item (for example chocolate) The molecules inside the chocolate have broken and cannot be adjusted again as the cannot be fixed. This burnt chocolate is an irreversible change because once the molecules are broken the cannot be put back together. I think that before we walked into the classroom after lunch the chocolate had just recently been overheated by an oven and then was simply placed in the mess scene for investigation.

Frozen Milk

  • Physical Change
  • Reversible Change
Frozen milk is a physical change because once the milk had been frozen it can easily be melted again by adding heat or leaving it out of the fridge. It is a reversible change because the change can be easily undone by leaving it out of the fridge/freezer. I think that before 6A walked in after lunch break the milk was left in the freezer overnight and then before we discovered the mess scene placed in on the ground for the investigation.

Glass of Salt and Water

  • Chemical Change
  • Physical Change
  • Irreversible Change
The Glass of Salt and Water is a Chemical and Physical change because once you put the salt in to the glass of water you can poor it back out into a small sieve and the salt wouldn't be dissolved yet. But if you dissolved the salt into the water it would be a 'chemical change' because you no longer have the salt because you have dissolved it into the water.
In our case the water was a physical change because we could still see the salt crystals sitting at the bottom. So I think that the salt was dropped into a cup of water and placed in the mess scene.

Water, Bicarbonate Soda & Citric Acid

  • Chemical Change
  • Irreversible Change
I think that the water, bicarbonate of soda and citric acid is a chemical change because once all three ingredients were mixed together the all mixed together and formed a bubbly formation in the cup and then it evaporated into the air and you cannot detain the gas that has separated therefore it is a chemical change. It is irreversible because you cannot detain the gas that has already separated into the air. Therefore before we walked in at 11:30 the 3 ingredients were mixed together and then placed in the mess scene.

Spilt Vinegar

  • Chemical Change
  • Irrereversible Change
The spilt vinegar is a chemical change because once the vinegar was poured into the bowl and put onto the floor it began to evaporate into the air therefore it is a chemical change because the gas can not be detained as it has already evaporated and in the air around us. It is a irreversible change because it cannot be detained as said above. I think that it was poured into a bowl and that became the spilt vinegar in the mess scene.

Because on that day we had a unexpected fire drill I thing that someone who has access to this classroom made this experiment for especially or science for this term. I think it was there 5-10 minutes because the Berocca was still bubbling, the ice block still had condensation and the water, bicarbonate soda & citric acid was still bubbling and so on.
