ESSENTIAL QUESTION

WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR CHRISTIANS TO FORGIVE?

Untitled Slide

According to the website "Power to Change.com " written by Lynette Hoy, on Dec. 26 2014 she explains the process of forgiveness. Hoy states, "when we do something wrong or hurtful we tend to excuse our own behavior by attributing external causes." Most of the time people tend to let ourselves off the hook and give ourselves excuses of why we fail.

Hoy says, "Forgiving someone does not cancel out the consequences of their actions. The goal is to promote empathy and forgiveness and look more realistically at the hurtful events from their point of view.” This means we need to think the best of people. Hoy observes, "that a lack of empathy can get in the way of forgiveness". So if we can develop empathy and have some grace this will help our process to forgive.

"The ability to forgive is rooted in being forgiven ourselves. In the Bible it says that God loves the world so much that he sent his only son so that we could be forgiven", explains Hoy. As people we all make mistakes, not one of us can live up to the standard God set on our own. But God promises that if we accept what Jesus did for us, we can be forgiven. So Christians should be able to forgive freely because of what Jesus did for us; but that is unfortunately not what usually happens. Instead Christians tend to be judge-mental and unaccepting of a persons sin.
