ROANOKE

HISTORY

• The lost Colony of Roanoke Island.
• Two years earlier an unsucessful attempt had been made to establish a settlement on Roanoke Island.
• Sir Richard Grenville left 100 men on the island to go back to England for supplies.
• Sir Francis Drake stopped at Roanoke in June of 1586.
• When White and company arrived in July 22,1587.

THEORY

• The colonist were killed by native americans
• Before the second attempt to set up a colony the English set up an expedition.
• The expedition was set up by Sir Ralph Lane.
• The natives fought back killing all of the settlers.
• The rest of the colonist were forced to leave.

WHY IS THEORY RIGHT?

• However what they did find was interesting.
• They found remnants of one dead body,killed by tomahawkand scalp wounds.
• The body was found in several pieces.
• Giving the idea that the natives tried to hide the body.
• But they left some of the remains and forgot about them.
