Air France Flight 4590

  • First Concorde accident in 27 years
  • Considered safest plane up until this point
  • 113 people died, including 100 passengers, 9 crew, and 4 people on the ground.
  • Crash site at Gonesse, France

Causes of the Accident

  • Engine Failure due to debris
  • Piece of Metal Strip cut the tires
  • The debris from the runway and the tire caused an impact on the fuel tanks
  • Leakage occurred and electric jolt from the landing gear bay caused a fire
  • Eventually led to 2 engine failures and the crash

Effects of the Accident

  • All Concordes were grounded for examination of cause of crash
  • Contributed to the eventual retirement of the aircraft.
