PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
INTOXICATION AND COORDINATION
BY: SHOILEE, EMMY, MURPHY AND HANNAH
2.
RESEARCH
Drinking causes confusion, vision distortion, double vision, and weakens depth perseption
Consumption affects the brain by weaking connections between vision and movement areas
Increases effects of gaba in the brain, causes slurred speech and sluggish movements
Weakens the muscles of the eye, therefore decreasing hand-eye coordination
3.
PROCEDURE
Got a large enough sample: PE & Health Class
Randomly selected to catch a ball w/ & w/o goggles
Underhand threw a ball from 20 feet back at the students chest
Recorded if they caught the ball or not both times
Ran the test
4.
DOES ALCOHOL AFFECT YOUR COORDINATION TO CATCH A BALL?
To bring awareness to the affect of alcohol on everyday activities
Ho: There's no difference between catching a ball without goggles and with goggles
Ha: There's a difference between catching a ball without goggles and with goggles
We expected to find that people wouldn't be able to catch the ball with goggles as easily.
5.
CONDITIONS
The students were randomly selected
The sample was independent
19 students are less than 10% of the whole student body
Success/Fail condition (next slide)
6.
SUCCESS/FAIL CONDITION
Goggles: np (190) is greater than or equal to 10
nq (171) is greater than or equal to 10
No goggles: np (304) is greater than equal to 10
nq (57) is greater than or equal to 10
All conditions are met therefore, a normal distribution & 2-prop z test is app.
7.
RUNNING THE TEST
Z= -2.0939
P-Value: 0.0181
0.0181
Reject Ho
8.
CONCLUSION
At the 0.05 level of significance, there is convincing evidence that there is
a difference between catching a ball without goggles and with
goggles.
