• Asia: The total middle east to northwestern India and Mongolia
• Africa: all of north Africa
• Europe: Turkey, Spain, and parts of France, Bosnia, and Armania

HOW DID IT SPREAD?

• The main reason for spread was through conquests
• When the muslims invaded territories, the citizens came into Muslim rule
• However, people conquered were not forced into islamic religion
• People who didn't practice the Islamic religion were taxed
• So, many people converted to Islam so that they would not be taxed

ISLAMIC RELIGION ALSO SPREAD IN OTHER WAYS

• The islamic religion also spread in many other ways
• There were many people that liked their beliefs, and converted themselves
• The religion also spread through travel and trade of the Muslims

HOW DID RELIGION UNIFY MUSLIMS?

• In places where Islam is the main religion, they are ethnically diverse
• All different types of people come together to pray to one god and prophet
• In the Muslim world, there are over 1 billion people practicing Islam
• Today still, Islam is the biggest religion in the Middle East

Islam Influences

• People who have high religious power are also leaders in villages
• Local religious leaders are called Mullahs, they lead with the Quran
• Muslims tolerate beliefs of other religions, but do not stand for criticism
• Islamic beliefs can be so strong that people will follow a Mullah to battle
