QUESTION

"IF-THEN" STATEMENT

WHAT WILL BE MEASURED

MATERIALS

• 6 different colors of non-toxic paint
• 1 canvas
• 1 male cockroach
• 1 female cockroach
• 4 green lab bins

MATERIALS CONTINUED

• 1 ipad
• 1 paper plate
• Multiple wet paper towels
• 1 roll of tape
• 1 sharpie

PROCEDURE

• Set up canvas
• Tape green lab lids up against canvas
• Set up chart for cockroaches colors
• Squirt paint on paper plate
• Put desired color of paint on cockroach

PROCEDURE CONTINUED

• Set cockroach down on canvas
• Repeat steps 5-6 two more times
• (Use different colored paints for step above)

Results:
Without the paint, both cockroaches moved around normally. But when putting paint on the female we noticed she stayed in one general area and didn't move as much with paint. Later, she began to move around more. The male was not effected by the paint.

Conclusions and Further Investigations:

We learned that female cockroaches are more effected by paint than the male. We still don't know why the female was effected, but the male wasn't. Our hypothesis was partly true. With male, but with the female it was incorrect. We could continue the investigation by putting the cockroaches on different surfaces with paint.
