PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
How to translate a latin story!
Alexandra Alberta
2.
Here are some tips!
Locate the subject in the sentence.
Identify what form the verb is.
Is it active or passive? What tense is it?
Check for clues of a subjunctive clause.
Never translate in the order of the Latin words!
3.
When figuring out the meaning of a word...
Check for context clues.
Keep trying to figure it out!
Look back through old translations for the word.
If it's a verb, make sure you have the correct tense.
If you can't figure it out, check the dictionary, or ask magistra.
4.
Here are some examples...
Miser servus totiens a domino verberatur ut capiti valde nocuerit.
The subject is the slave.
The verb is perfect active tense SUBJUNCTIVE (sentence is result clause).
Translation: The miserable slave was beaten so many times by the master...
that his head was now injured.
5.
If i didn't know what one of the words meant...
I could have used context clues,
or whatever else i could have to figure it out.
6.
Hope this helped!
Thank you :)
