Ohio River Valley

  • In 1740, British settlers started claiming the Ohio River
  • The French had already claimed it
  • This led to war

French and Indian War

  • In 1753, French builds forts to claim land back
  • Virginia Colony, had also claimed this land
  • He was ordered to build fort
  • Attacked and defeated the French
  • Larger French army made them return

Stamp Act

  • An act that was passed in 1765
  • Required colonists to pay taxes on products
  • Such as, paper, newspaper, contracts, and etc
  • Patrick Henry gave a speech on it
  • The act was repealed in 1766

Tea Act

  • Act which was passed in 1773
  • Smuggling of illegal tea
  • Gave money to East India Company

  • Four harsh laws
  • First act closed the port of Boston
  • 2nd and 3rd increased powers of governor 
  • Fourth law strengthened the 1765 Quartering Act
