CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Martin Luther King Jr. is known as the leader of civil rights. He gave a famous speech in Washington D.C on August 28, 1963 called, "I have a dream." He marched to Washington with 200,000 people that day. He changed not only the U.S, but the world in civil rights, and that we should treat everyone equal.

Emmet Till was a 14 year old boy who was murdered for whistling at a white lady. He was murdered on August 28, 1955 in a barn by 2 white men. This act then started the civil rights movement in Mississippi. Mississippi was the place Till was killed.

Malcolm X was a famous speaker and civil rights leader. He was assassinated on February 21, 1965 in Manhattan, New York. At his funeral they shared different speeches he made, this showed the U.S that we are equal. He also protested for Muslim rights.

Rosa Parks is known as the First Lady to start the civil rights movement. On October 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama Rosa Parks did not give her seat up to a white man. She wanted integration on all buses!

Andrew Goodman was a white man activists of the 1960's. He was murdered on June 21, 1964 in Mississippi by the KKK. His main goal was trying to get the African-Americans to vote in Mississippi. He wanted equality and was known for treating the blacks as one of him.
