HOW DOES IT WORK?

Young children who have experienced a loss or separation may feel their underlying emotions and not understand how to express them.

A safe, confidential and caring environment is created which allows a child to play with as few limits as possible but as many as necessary. This allows healing to occur on many levels following the natural inner trend towards health.

Unrestricted play allows them to express their emotions subconsciously through toys, paintings, and interactions.

IS PLAY THERAPY AN ACCEPTED FORM OF TREATMENT?

Yes and no. Play is becoming less and less important to our society almost like its unnecessary for development. Social workers however are leaning more towards this therapy for happier and more well-rounded children.
Doctors will sometimes prescribe play therapy for mental issues but a lot of times it is not considered medical.

It depends on the person. It may work for some kids with mild issues but it could be completely ineffective in children with mental issues.
