Start of the war
The election of 1860 was the unofficial start of the war. Lincoln winning the presidency was the jump start to the war. However the war officially began after the secession of several states beginning with SC. Hostilities began on April 12 1861 when confederate soldiers fired on Fort Sumter SC.
