TERMS

  • Benefit: an advantage or profit gained from something
  • Costs: an amount that has to be paid or spent to buy or obtain something
  • Environmental Impact: a strong effect on the nature, or weather
  • Alternative: available as another possibility

4 ALTERNATIVE SOURCES

  • Wind
  • Solar
  • Hydroelectricity
  • Geothermal

WIND ENERGY

  • Wind energy is energy provided from turbines or windmills.
  • When the wind is going at a very fast pace or speed it
  • spins the turbines and gives off energy/power. A windmill
  • does the same thing as a wind turbine except it is also
  • powered by water.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY

  • Geothermal energy is thermal energy
  • generated and store inside of the Earth.

SOLAR ENERGY

  • Solar energy is solar panels placed outside to collect

  • such as homes, businesses and cars.

HYDROELECTRICITY

  • Hydroelectricity is energy provided from a body
  • of water. This occurs when a body of water is stored in one place
  • and spins turbines to give off power/electricity to a community
  • of people.

COSTS

  • Solar: Use of hazardous material
  • Hydeoelectric: Habitat loss

BENEFITS

  • Wind: Affordable
  • Geothermal: Easy to create by water
