PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MOBILES

Some artworks actually move while others attempt to give the impression of movement. These are called mobiles.

MECHANIZED

Some artworks are mechanized so that parts of the artwork actually move.

IMPLIED

Some artworks that don't actually move but movement is implied. The artist uses a variety of devices to imply that a composition is or has been moving.

SEQUENCE OF POSES

Another way to imply movement is to show one figure in an overlapping sequence of poses.

FUZZY LINES

Fuzzy outlines mimic the viewer's everyday visual experience. When objects move through our field of vision quickly, we do not get a clear mental picture of them which implies movement.

UNSTABLE BODY POSITIONS

The viewer recognizes temporar, unstable body positions and realizes that change is imminent. The viewer imagines that movement is taking place. This creates implied movement.

OPTIC

Artists intentionally create a pathway through an artwork to lead the viewer through the composition. This is called optic movement.

STATIC

Sometimes artists create artworks that appear to have no movement at all. This is called static.
