PITCHED PERCUSSION

PIANO, TIMPANI, XYLOPHONE, CHIMES, STEEL PANS

PIANO

  • It has 88 keys
  • You press the keys with your fingers
  • You only need one piano to be able to play
  • Has three pedals

TIMPANI

  • Use mallets to play
  • 4-8 timpanis to play
  • They have pedals
  • Pedals tighten and loosen to pitch the instrument

XYLOPHONE

  • Play with two mallets
  • You only need one xylophone to play
  • Must be flexible to play

CHIMES

  • Play with chime hammer
  • You only need one set of chimes to play
  • You must press the pedal for the instrument to produce sound
  • Hit the top of the chimes for the best sound

STEEL PANS

  • There are four types
  • Bass, Cello, Double Seconds, and Lead
  • You have to hit them all with mallets to produce a sound

DOUBLE SECONDS

  • You hit it with mallets
  • You need 2 pans to play
  • There are 2 pans

CELLO

  • There are 3 pans
  • You hit it with mallets
  • You need three pans to play

BASS PANS

  • There are 6 pans
  • You hit them with mallets
  • You need 6 pans to play
