Its My Life

Bon Jovi

Bon Jovi is a hard rock band from New Jersey that formed in 1983. It is formed of 3 people: Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan and Tico Torres although there are 2 past band members. The band split briefly in 1990 but reformed in 1992 and has since created successful albums throughout the years.

This music video shows that it fits the genre of being a rock song as it is a loud, fast song, it is set mostly in a darker scene where Bon Jovi are performing this fits the stereotypical setting for a rock video as many rock videos are performance style.

Livin’ On A Prayer has a black and white effect added in until 2:40 where the preparation for the concert turns into the concert starting and the lighting from the concert and stage are involved. When the video turns to colour there are lots of stage pyrotechnics which adds an aesthetically pleasing element for both the crowd at the concert and for us watching on screen. The pyrotechnics are very dangerous which adds to the rock element and that the band do not care for their safety when there are fireworks going off left right and centre.

There are lots of low angle shots feature of Bon Jovi and the band, this shows that they are powerful and people to look up to. The crowd are featured in high angle shots as though the band are looking down at them, this shows that they are the less dominant people in this music video but you can also see that they are in awe of how amazing Bon Jovi are. There are many close ups of the bands faces to show their emotion and it is clear to see that they are enjoying all the attention they are getting

The costumes that Bon Jovi wear are very plain in the style of jeans etc. But they also wear long coats and ‘cowboy’ style boots which would be typical around the 80s time period. This shows that they are comfortable in the clothes they wear and that their image is not of total importance and they want the crow to enjoy their music. However because they are wearing cowboy boots you can also see that they are classed as stylish for their time period as they were a typical fashion item.

In Livin’ On A Prayer the main props used is the typical equipment you expect at a concert which helps show that the video itself is a performance video and nothing else. Also the use of to other concerts. It also brings entertainment to the video which is hard to see in a performance music video.

Editing wise each shot hardly lasts 5 seconds then moves on and cuts to a completely different angle or showing a different event, different person etc. This keeps us entertained but also shows what is going on overall in the concert.
