PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EXPLOSIVE POWER

BY MACKENZIE DESILETS

INTRO

  • Define what it is in relation to athletics
  • How do athletics train to increase it?
  • How is it used in P.E class and how do we train/practice it?

DEFINE WHAT IT IS IN RELATION TO ATHLETICS

  • Explosive power
  • Explosive power cont.
  • Phases of Athletics with explosive power

EXPLOSIVE POWER

  • Someone's ability to exert a maximum amount of force in the shortest possible time period.
  • The farther the distance a leg travels, the greater the work and therefor, the greater the power.
  • Power equals force divided by time according to Matt Brughelli.
  • Most commonly used in sports that include speed and force such as football and soccer.
What is it in relation to athletics?

EXPLOSIVE POWER CONT.

  • It takes a longer time for muscles to develop maximum force which is a problem for some athletes such as sprinters.
  • Explosive power is not dependent on speed but more on strength.
  • Although speed does have an important role in fast movements.
  • Dunking a basketball is one example of explosive power.

PHASES

  • Learning about how much force and how fast the muscle is able to generate.
  • Knowing how much force and how fast your muscles are able to generate.
  • Then training to improve your explosive power.
  • Knowing how far you can push yourself as well.

HOW DO ATHLETICS TRAIN TO INCREASE IT?

  • Jumping exercises
  • Simple exercises
  • Sports

JUMPING EXERSIZES

  • Concentric box jumps (jumping up on a tall box)
  • Frog squat jumps
  • Long box jumps
  • Jump rope

SIMPLE EXERSIZES

  • Plyometric push-ups
  • Alternate leg bounding
  • Death jump
  • Regular push ups

SPORTS

  • Softball
  • Baseball
  • Soccer/kickball
  • Football

HOW IS IT USED IN p.E CLASS AND HOW DO WE TRAIN/PRACTICE IT?

  • How is it used in P.E?
  • How do we train it?
  • How do we practice it?

HOW IS IT USED IN p.e?

  • During games.
  • During warm ups.
  • During changing if someone's running late.
  • During every class where we play intense games.

HOW DO WE TRAIN IT?

  • By learning what it is.
  • By doing a skill and then trying to improve it.
  • By rushing.
  • By having force during games.

HOW DO WE PRACTICE IT?

  • By using strong force during warm ups.
  • By using strong quick force during games.
  • By doing it repeatedly.
  • By consistently throwing a ball hard during games.

EXPLOSIVE POWER IS SOMETHING WE DONT USE TO OFTEN BUT IS HANDY AT TIMES

  • We learn about what it is.
  • We learn how athletics train to increase it.
  • We realize how we use it in P.E, and how we train/practice it.
  • It's an important thing to learn about and know about so you are able to do it.
