One day Betty was sitting in her science class wondering what happened to her food once it left her MOUTH.

Little did Betty know that her food traveled down a long path starting at her mouth and ending at her ANUS.

Betty learned that after your food left your mouth it went to your ESOPHAGUS.

After food goes down your esophagus, Betty learned that her food went to her STOMACH.

The SMALL INTESTINE was the next stop for Betty's food. Although called small, the small intestine is larger than the LARGE INTESTINE in length. The small intestine is divided into three parts, the DUODENUM, JEJUNUM, and the ILIUM.

In between the small and large intestine your food goes to the LIVER. The liver is used for storage of iron and vitamins. It also destroys old red blood cells and DETOXIFIES blood.

Next, was the large intestine for Betty's food. It is called large because it is wider than the small intestine. The main function of the large intestine is REABSORPTION of water.

The second to last stop for your food is the RECTUM. The rectum is the last twenty centimeters of the COLON.

Finally, the last stop before your food that is now FECES leaves your body, it goes to the ANUS. From the anus your feces then exits the body.

I hope you have enjoyed my book and that you learned something.

Mouth- receives food, chews it up, and starts to digest any starch in food.
Esophagus- a long muscular tube that extends from pharynx to stomach.
Stomach- thick- walled, J-shaped organ that lies on left side of the body beneath the diagram

Large intestine- reabsorption of water from indigestible matter(feces)
Rectum- the last twenty centimeters of the colon
Anus- the opening of the rectum
Feces-poop
Reabsorption- absorbing something again
Duodenum, Jejunum, and ilium- the parts of the small intestine
Detoxifies- removing toxins
Colon- part of large intestine
