FOUNDING OF ROME 753Bc

• Romulus and remus were twin brothers,who were abandonede by their parents
• They were put in a basket and placed into the Tiber River
• A female wolf found them and nursed them until a shepherd found them
• They fought over where the site should be and Romulus killed Remus and became the sole founder of the new city named Rome

ROMAN EMPIRE BEGANS 27 BC

• Octavius appoints himself Augustus,which means king
• He refurned the laws of the city and the empire by extension,secured romans borders,initiated vast building projects
• The pax romana also known as pax Augusta,which he initiated and maintained a time of peace and prosperty

THE ROMANS AND QUEEN BOUDICA 60AD

• She led an uprising against the romans
• When her husband died he left territory to his wife and the Romans ,but they wanted it all
• Romans beat and raped her daughters
• Other tribes joined her to fight the romans and killed all the romans they saw

FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE CITY 64 AD

• Fire broke out in the murchant area of the city
• The fire lasted for six days and seven nights
• When it was over it left 70% of the city in smoldering ruins
• The fire uncovered a city made of marble and stone with wide streets

THE COLOSSEUM 80 AD

• Was the largest amphitheater in Rome
• It took nearly a decade to build
• To celebrate there was a festival of 100 days of games
• The colosseum could hold more than 50,000 spectacles
