WILLIAM TECUMSEH SHERMAN

Born: February 8, 1820, Lancaster, OH
Died: February 14, 1891, New York City, NY

William Sherman went to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated sixth in the class of 1840.

William Sherman married Ellen Ewig Sherman in 1850. Ellen was his foster sister.
They had eight children:

Thomas Ewig Sherman, Eleanor Ewig Sherman, Charles Celestine Sherman, Philemon Tecumseh Sherman, Rachel Ewig Sherman Thorndike, Marie Ewig Sherman, Mary Elizabeth Sherman, and William Ewig Sherman

William Sherman led the Union troops into battle, and he was most remembered for his leadership in the Civil War.

A fun fact about William Sherman is his friends called him "Cump".

Sherman saw some contact during the Second Seminole War in Florida, and did not fight in the Mexican American War. Serving in California.

In May 1861, Sherman was appointed colonel in the 13th U.S. Infantry and was assigned command of a brigade under General McDowell in Washington.

Sherman fought in his first battle, Battle of the Bull Run , which the Union troops were badly beaten

Sherman took Atlanta,Georgia and burned it to the ground. He began his celebration by taking his men and "March the Sea" ripping through Georgia with a path of destruction following him.

William Sherman helped the Union win the War.

THE BATTLE AT GETTYSBURG

A BLOODY 3 DAY BATTLE

The Battle at Gettysburg was the turning point in the Civil War.

The battle lasted three days, and the Union won. The Battle is referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion".

Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was an inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immoral "Gettysburg Address".
