Bethany Hamilton had plans to be a champion surfer, but a 15-foot tiger shark had something against that. The shark had a snack and bit off her arm and supposedly ruined her dream, but Bethany didn't give up. She still pursued her dream and now her story is an inspiration to all of us.

In both stories, someone came close to dying. The big difference is that Bethany from Soul Surfer had faith and knew she was going to live, but Johnsey from The Last Leaf had no hope and gave up.
