SATURN

  • Saturn was named after the Roman god of agriculture.
  • According to the myth, Saturn introduced agriculture to his people by teaching them how to farm
  • Saturn was also the Roman God of time.
  • The formation of the planet Saturn is nearly identical to the formation of other planets.
  • Saturn formed billions of years ago from cold gas and dust from the solar nebula.

SATURN

  • Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun and the second largest planet in the solar system.
  • The actual number of Saturn's density is 0.687 grams per cubic centimeter.
  • This is actually less dense than water; if you had a large enough pool of water, Saturn would float.
  • Saturn has the lowest densities of all planets.

SATURN

  • The exploration of Saturn has been solely done by unmanned probes.
  • Three missions were flybys, which formed an extended foundation of knowledge about the system.

SATURN

  • Saturn's composition is primarily that of simple molecules such as hydrogen and helium
  • There is also ice of ammonia, ice of methane and water ice.

SATURN

  • With an average temperature of minus 288 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 178 degrees Celsius),
  • Saturn is a pretty cool planet
  • Although, there are some tempature changes as one travels to the equator to the poles.
  • Most of Saturn's tempature variation is horizontal

SATURN

  • The orbit of Saturn lasts 29.7 years.
  • The time Saturn completes one full revolution around the Sun, Earth has gone through almost 30 years of rotations

SATURN

  • Jupiter and Saturn have protected life on Earth for hundreds of millions of years by shielding us from comets.
  • Many large comets hurtling towards Earth all the way from the edge of the Solar System have been batted away by the two gas giants, preserving life as we know it.
  • Saturn is a guardian planet for Earth

SATURN

  • Saturn has 62 moons
  • Saturn’s rings could be old, or they could be young.
  • There could be life near Saturn
  • If the sun were as tall as a typical front door, the Earth would be the size of a nickel and Saturn would be about as big as a basketball
  • Saturn is next to Uranus
