Recent Cases of Brutality Recently, there have been many cases, most recent being that of Freddie Gray. This case was the cause of major riots in the city of Baltimore. The driver, Officer Caesar Goodson, was charged with second-degree murder, among other charges. Officer Goodson received the longest statement. The shortest statement was that of 10 years.
Another case was that of Eric Garner. After receiving a complaint that Mr. Garner was illegally selling loose cigarettes, police officers attempted to restrain him. While attempting to restrain Mr. Garner, a police officer used a banned chokehold technique, cutting off Mr. Garner's air supply. He reportedly said, "I can't breathe." This has become the motto of thousands of protestors across the nation.
Cases Continued Young boys have also been shot, just because the officers mistook the airsoft and BB guns for real ones. There have been many cases, like that of Michael Brown, who was unarmed and was shot by an officer. They are all victims of Police brutality.
Fake Cases People who are unhappy with the police might also file fake cases of brutality. One man who did that is now facing eight months in prison, and three years of release under surveillance.
