Economy changed from fur trade to gold
Boom and bust cycle was created and defined the economy at the time

ALDER GULCH
Alder Gulch is in the Yellow Stone River region
Mining for gold started in May, 1863.
Indians turned the prospector groups around.
One group camped by Ruby River valley and found a lot of gold
Within a few months a lot of people came to Alder Gulch

GRASSHOPPER CREEK
Grasshopper creek basically made the city of Bannack
In 1862 a prospector and his partner found gold by Beaverhead River
There were so many grasshoppers, they named it grasshopper creek.
Nearly 400 people flocked the river that summer.
Grasshopper creek produced 5 million dollars in gold dust.

LAST CHANCE GULCH
Last chance gulch was about to give up.
Rumors began to fly that there was gold somewhere else.
Four men call the four Georgians created the gold panning technique.
They called it the Georgian Method.
They found gold in the Prickly Pear Creek, just before they gave up.
