GOLD RUSH💴

CHANGE OF THE LANDSCAPE

  • Gathered many people of different cultures to the Rocky Mountains
  • Economy changed from fur trade to gold
  • Boom and bust cycle was created and defined the economy at the time

ALDER GULCH

  • Alder Gulch is in the Yellow Stone River region
  • Mining for gold started in May, 1863.
  • Indians turned the prospector groups around.
  • One group camped by Ruby River valley and found a lot of gold
  • Within a few months a lot of people came to Alder Gulch

GRASSHOPPER CREEK

  • Grasshopper creek basically made the city of Bannack
  • In 1862 a prospector and his partner found gold by Beaverhead River
  • There were so many grasshoppers, they named it grasshopper creek.
  • Nearly 400 people flocked the river that summer.
  • Grasshopper creek produced 5 million dollars in gold dust.

LAST CHANCE GULCH

  • Last chance gulch was about to give up.
  • Rumors began to fly that there was gold somewhere else.
  • Four men call the four Georgians created the gold panning technique.
  • They called it the Georgian Method.
  • They found gold in the Prickly Pear Creek, just before they gave up.
