In addition to a government, Rhode Island a general assembly consisting of representative from various towns and cities. The assembly was to make laws, monitor trade with the indians, found quarts, and form emergency troops caled millisha to protect the Rhode Island colony. The 1663 charter was so respected, it remained the law of Rhode Island for 180 years, well beyond time.

Rhode Island had reputations of welcoming pirates with respect. For example William Kidd, was thought to have turned pirate, Kidd spent most of his time in Rhode Island, and was backed up by many rhode island merchants. There were reasons why Rhode Islanders became a pirate haven. Almost everyone gained from piracy, because pirates sold stolen items cheaply. Because of this people could save money by buying from them. Shopkeepers usually liked having pirates around because they spent money freely.
Geography Rhode Islands land is greatly varried. Rhode Island has 2 main land regions, the Western 2 thirds of the colony is a hilly landscape with an elevation of just over 800 feet above sea level. The rest of the colony is on the coast. This area contains the coastline and a grouping of small islands Narragansett Bay. Along the shore of sandy beaches and rocky cliffs. Rhode Island is mild and humid. The average temperature in january is 29 degrees farenheit and 71 degrees in July. Rhode island recieves an average of 42 inches of precipitation every year. The weather is unpredictable and windy. Blizzards in the winter and tropical storms in the summer time can sometimes switch to mild conditions in a matter of hours. Rhode island may have a few large mineral deposits, but the land has something more to offer- its soil. The soil in the lowlands is much better then the western and eastern land for cultivation.
