PURPOSE / HYPOTHESIS / OBJECTIVE

  • Purpose: The purpose of the project is to see if music has an effect on plant growth
  • Hypothesis:My hypothesis is I do believe that music will have an effect on plant growth
  • Objective: The objective of the experiment is to find out if music has an effect on plant growth

Background
: The question does music have an effect on plant growth has been experimented on by many students and scientists. Many people will debate on this topic saying yes it does or no it doesn't. Music consist of sound waves in many different frequencies. So the sound waves will travel through the air and the plant will hear the different frequencies and react to this.

MATERIALS

  • 3 of the same plants
  • Tap water
  • 2 devices that can play classical and rock and roll music
  • 3 cups that can hold the same amount of water
  • Pen and a notepad

MATERIALS

  • 1 Ruler
  • Package of Labels
  • 1 Camera
  • 1 Container of Plant food

PROCEDURE

  • Gather all of the materials you need to complete the experiment
  • Put the three plants by three different windows, in three different rooms, that receive the same amount of sunlight. Then you will label one plant rock the other plant classical, and the other plant none. While working on your experiment for 20 days you will give them the same amount of water, plant food, and sunlight
  • For thirty minutes every day at the same time you will have the plants listen to there specific music. Then calculate their height. Do this for twenty days in order.
  • Write your data in a book so you can calculate your results when you have completed the experiment.
  • Copy steps 3-4 for twenty days. Also do not forget to water the plants frequently

Experimental design
My epiremental design is I put the three plants in three different pots. Then I used three different rooms. The plants were placed by a window on a table. The plants by each different window received the same amount of sunlight and the rooms were the same tempature.

DATA / OBSERVATION / RESULTS

  • Day 1.) Classical= 10.2inches / No Music= 10.4 inches/ Rock= 10.5 inches
  • Day 2.) Classical= 10.2 inches / No Music= 10.4 inches/ Rock= 10.5 inches
  • Day 3.) Classical= 10.4 inches / No Music= 10.5 inches / Rock= 10.5 inches
  • Day 4.) Classical= 10.6 inches / No Music= 10.8 inches/ Rock= 10.6 inches
  • Day 5.) Classical= 10.9 inches/ No Music= 11.1 inches/ Rock= 10.7 inches

DATA / OBSERVATION / RESULTS

  • Day 6.) Classical= 11.2 inches / No Music= 11.2 inches/ Rock= 10.9 inches
  • Day 7.) Classical= 11.6 inches/ No Music= 11.4 inches / Rock= 11.2 inches
  • Day 8.) Classical= 12 inches/ No Music= 11.8 inches / Rock= 11.5 inches
  • Day 9.) Classical= 12.3 inches/ No Music= 12 inches/ Rock= 10.9 inches
  • Day 10.) Classical= 12.7 inches/ No Music= 12.2 inches/ Rock= 10.6 inches

DATA / OBSERVATION / RESULTS

  • Day 11.) Classical= 13.2 inches / No Music= 12.5 inches / Rock= 10.3 inches
  • Day 12.) Classical= 13.8 inches / No Music= 12.8 inches/ Rock= 10.1 inches
  • Day 13) Classical= 14.4 inches / No Music= 13.- inches/ Rock= 9.8 inches
  • Day 14.) Classical= 15 inches/ No Music= 13.5 Inches / Rock=9.4 inches
  • Day 15.) Classical= 15.4 inches/ No Music=13.9 inches / Rock= 9.1 inches

DATA / OBSERVATION / RESULTS

  • Day 16.) Classical= 15. 8 inches / No Music= 14.3 inches / Rock= 8.7 inches
  • Day 17.) Classical= 16.4 Inches / No Music= 14. Inches 6/ Rock= 8.5 inches
  • Day 18.) Classical= 16.9 inches/ No Music= 14.9 inches/ Rock= 8.4 inches
  • Day 19.) Classical= 17. 3 inches / No Music= 15.3 inched / Rock= 8.2 inches
  • Day 20.) Classical= 17.8 inches / No Music= 15.7 inches / Rock= 7.9 inches

Data / Observation / Results
: What I observed from the past twenty days is the plant that listened to classical music grew the most, then the plant with no music grew the second most, and the plant that listened to rock music grew the least. In fact the pedals on the plant that listened to rock music started to die, and were going to fall off. Also what I observed is the plants did not have a steady growth, also the plant with no music was always a few centimeters behind than the plant with classical music. Finally for the first couple days of my experiment the plants were the same height then they started to change.

Conclusion
Conclusion: The conclusion to my experiment is my hypothesis was correct classical music did grow the most while rock and roll music did not and the plant with no music grew a little slower than the plant with classical music, but more than the plant with rock music.
