As the acupuncturist inserts the needle, he/she puts them into the body's meridians to clear energy blockages.
During the procedure they sometimes simulate the needles. Something that they might do is massage, cupping, or sometimes they send an electric flow.

Masters degree programs take anywhere from 3-4 years to accomplish. They focus on equipping students with the diagnostic and therapeutic skills needed to practice acupuncture. Curricula focus on other methods as well as other oriental and western medicines.
Doctoral Degree programs tend to be extended over six semesters plus adding on the masters degree. The program builds on fundamental skills acquired at the masters degree level. They rely on advanced clinical practice.
You can to be licenses to practice acupuncture. You get certification by the NCCAOM or The Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
