COLONIAL AMERICA

A WIDE, WIDE OCEAN TO CROSS

  • The food and clothes got wet while traveling.
  • The word Pilgrim means someone who goes on a long journey
  • No one knows thats the pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock but it was most logical to land
  • In 1620, 101 passengers left England and traveled for two months, for freedom
  • They landed on a rock called Plymouth in Massachuttes.

WHAT, WHERE, AND WHO WAS COLONIAL AMERICA

  • When the Europeans first arrived they had no shelter.
  • When the Europeans came to America, the Native Americans brought gifts.
  • They had to eat wild berries.
  • They had 13 colonies in America and they first came into Virginia in 1607.

THE PILGRIMS LIVED ON

  • Pilgrims mixed wild daisies and animal fat, as medicine for a cut
  • Inside the pilgrims houses there was a fireplace to keep them warm and too cook but,
  • Not a lot of funiture, they used wood planks as a table
  • Pilgrims houses were small and had no glass windows so they covered with cloth

THE RISE & FALL AND RISE OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG

  • In 1758 George Washington was elected to become president
  • The pilgrims main animals were oxen,sheep,horses,pigs, and fowl
  • Everybody wore wigs , that showed how wealthy they were.
  • Many people who lived in Williamsburg had small estates with lovely houses,outbuildings, and
  • Back yard gardens

COLONIAL KIDS

  • Children back then had few toys, most of them were homemade
  • The toys were made by carving them or making them with corn rose
  • The kids played with a doll rich kids had imported dolls.
  • Boys used there knifes to cut toys out of wood

HEARTH&HOME

  • Most colonial women made their family's clothing
  • Birds had to be plucked, and bread was baked to make dinner
  • Heating got chilly at night and they had to heat the sheets on a pan
  • They handmade a lot of different things inside their own homes

BUSINESS OF AMERICA

  • In 1770 Paul Revere made a famous engraving of the Boston Massacre
  • Paul Revere made the first copper mill in America.
  • Paul Revere had many accomplishments
  • Early America all buildings and woodworking had to be done by hand

THANKSGIVING

  • The Governor invited Indians to join the pilgrims,
  • To give thanks for a plentiful food season.
  • The very first Thanksgiving was at Plymouth Rock, year:1621

FUN FACTS!

  • Mercy Otis wrote plays making fun of the Bristish Officials
  • Children who misbehaved got got a whipping and paddling
  • Teacher would split a branch in half and put it between their nose
  • 2 babies were born on the ship from England to America and 1 person died
  • Pocahontas successfully pleaded with her father not to kill captain John S
