Why is writing important?

Talk about wanting to get your point across. We all use words to make an impact on others or to describe something. Words are a form of communication that we use daily and are VERY important to each of us. Without them, our lives would be chaotic. We follow writings and instructions from others just to get through every day. As students, they need to be proficient in writing because it's important to their future. Each one of them will be writing and speaking one day and will need to be able to speak eloquently with their boss

Types of Writing

List types of writing:
1. Expository – Writing in which author’s main purpose is to inform or explain a subject to the reader. Ex. Research papers
2. Persuasive – Writing that attempts to influence the reader. Using your knowledge and facts, you build a case for what you're arguing for. Ex. Speeches
3. Narrative – Author tells a story, could be fact or fiction. CREATIVE falls under this. Ex-Harry Potter
4. Descriptive – writing that paints a picture for the reader by asking them to use their 5 senses. Lots of imagery used

Writing rules for this classroom

Writing is meant for you to express ideas and emotions, but there will be rules.
1. No making fun of others' writing-BIG deal. Consequences will be given for those that do not follow rule
2. No profanity within the writing. Remember school rules and what is deemed "school appropriate" and follow those guidelines.
3. Take criticism with a grain of salt
4. Never write something that is not true. Writing is a privilege and a responsibility; don't lose it.
